Sun Hat Styles for 2012-2013 from Matakana Milinery

The Cloche sun hat is a women's fitted, bell-shaped hat with a narrow brim. The Cloche style sun hat, from Matakana Millinery has the brim cut away at the back which makes it very easy to wear all day as it doesn't get knocked when you lift your head, for example getting in and out of a car. All Cloche sun hats from Matakana Millinery have been stiffened and have a wire in their brim to ensure they hold their shape.
The Wide Floppy Brim sun hat is a 1970's inspired hat with a wide elegant brim.
The Fedora is worn by both men and women.  The Men's Fedora sun hat has a flat ribbon whislt the Women's Fedora has a knotted ribbon. The Fedora has a wider brim which differentiates it from the Trilby hat. The crown traditionally was creased lengthwise and pinched in the front on both sides - like the Classic Fedora.  The creasing does not define the hat, however, and these days Fedoras can also be creased with teardrop crowns, diamond crowns, center dents, and others.  All Fedora sun hats from Matakana Millinery have been stiffened and have a wire in their brim to ensure they hold their shape.

Materials used for our Sun Hats

Most people are not familiar with the materials used to make sun hats and commonly refer to them as Straw Hats.  Whilst hats from straw are still made, they are not that common and a lot of hats that look like straw (or straw types) are actually made of paper.  In our opinion neither are very good quality.
We prefer to use natural traditional materials and our summer 2012 - 2013 sun hat collection uses Seagrass both fine and open weave, Sisal, Palm leaf and Rush.
